Scattered Data Coding in Digital Image Compression
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper concerns digital image compression using adaptive thinning algorithms. Adaptive thinning is a recursive point removal scheme which works with decremental Delaunay triangulations. When applied to digital images, adaptive thinning returns a scattered set of most significant pixels. This requires efficient and customized methods for coding these pixels (but not their connectivities). To this end, we propose a hierarchical coding scheme, which works with recursive subdivisions of octtree cells, and which takes advantage of the statistical data correlation. The good performance of the resulting compression scheme is shown in comparison with the well-established wavelet-based method SPIHT.

Implementation of VlSI Based Image Compression Approach on Reconfigurable Computing System - A Survey
Image data require huge amounts of disk space and large bandwidths for transmission. Hence, imagecompression is necessary to reduce the amount of data required to represent a digital image. Thereforean efficient technique for image compression is highly pushed to demand. Although, lots of compressiontechniques are available, but the technique which is faster, memory efficient and simple, surely...
متن کاملAdvances in Digital Image Compression by Adaptive Thinning
This paper proposes a novel concept for digital image compression. The resulting compression scheme relies on adaptive thinning algorithms, which are recent multiresolution methods from scattered data approximation. Adaptive thinning algorithms are recursive point removal schemes, which are combined with piecewise linear interpolation over decremental Delaunay triangulations. This paper shows t...
متن کاملTowards PDE-Based Image Compression
While methods based on partial differential equations (PDEs) and variational techniques are powerful tools for denoising and inpainting digital images, their use for image compression was mainly focussing on preor postprocessing so far. In our paper we investigate their potential within the decoding step. We start with the observation that edge-enhancing diffusion (EED), an anisotropic nonlinea...

متن کاملVisual Pattern Image Coding by a Morphological Approach (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents an improvement of the Visual Pattern image coding (VPIC) scheme presented by Chen and Bovik in [2] and [3]. The patterns in this improved scheme are defined by morphological operations and classified by absolute error minimization. The improved scheme identifies more uniform blocks and reduces the noise effect. Therefore, it improves the compression ratio and image quality i...
